Somnath Jyotirling Temple @ Gujarat A Temple which is very Ancient and whose origination can not be traced. This is the First Sivalingam that is mentioned in the Dwadasa Jyothirlinga Sthothra " Saurāśhṭre Somanādhañcha " The Somnath Jyothirlingam is located in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval in Saurashtra, Gujarat. This is the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of the Lord Shiva. Soma , the Lord Chandra constructed the temple as a gesture after Lord Shiva cured him of his illness caused by his father-in-law Daksha Prajapati's curse. Daksha Prajapathi cursed him to wane as he was infatuated with Rohini and was neglecting the other 26 wives. All 26 were the daughters of Prajapati and are Stars like Aswani , Bharani etc., . It is said that Brahma advised him to build the temple in honour of Lord Shiva. According to legend, Soma, the Lord Chandra built the temple with Gold, King Ravana with Silver, Lord Krishna with Wood and King Bhimdev of Anhilwad with Stone. Lord Somnath was known as Bhairaveshwar in the Satya Yugam, Shravanikeshwar in Treta Yugam and Shrigaleshwar in Dwapar Yugam. Lord Somnath who was known as Bhairaveshwar in the Satya Yugam, Shravanikeshwar in Treta Yugam and Shrigaleshwar in DwaparYugam. Temple is known as "the Shrine Eternal", having been destroyed six times by Islamic kings and rulers. A lot of Gold Silver and money was taken away by those rulers. Most recently it was rebuilt in November 1947 with the intervention of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Sardar Patel has merged the Junagadh principality with the help of the army in India. When Sardar Patel came to Junagadh, he felt that Somnath Temple should be rebuilt. Patel soon after the merger with the money collected from public rebuilt the temple. Though he died during re-building his follower KM Munshi ensured completion and the Temple and was reopened by the then President Rajendra Prasad. May Lord Somnath Bless All.
